Principal’s Message

Dear parents, students and teachers,

I hope that you all enjoyed a relaxing break after a very busy Term 3. I’d like to welcome you all back to Term 4. Spring is here; I hope you all have been enjoying the weather, blossoming trees and plants that accompany it. I am amazed at how quickly the roses at the front of the school are growing.

The students have returned for the last term of school with energy and enthusiasm. It will be a busy term with many events including VCE exams, end of year graduation, VCE graduation and acknowledgement day. I wish all VCE students the best for their exams. I hope that they achieve their desired mark for each exam and that their hard work will pay off. School is a place that should be remembered as mixture of fun and hard work. Junior students should develop strong and positive relationships that our current and past Year 12 students have had with their teachers. I would like to advise Year 11 students to put in the extra effort now and work hard until they have finished their own Year 12 exams.

Music at Sirius

We had a wonderful and entertaining music night on the 14th of September. It was great to see what students have been working on throughout the year. Their beautiful performances taught us many important things such as working in a team, self-confidence, musical skills, organisation and most importantly, respect and love.

Sirius College introduced our inaugural music scholarships in 2018. This year, we offered six Eastmeadows students (Jwan Karim, Neda Eryilmaz, Sueda Turgut, Fida Hamdani, Nesibe Lelik and Nahide Turkman) instrumental tuition scholarships where they had the opportunity to partake in one-on-one lessons on their specific instrument once a week. Not only has the feedback from the students been overwhelmingly good, but Prestige Music School has also been very impressed by the commitment and positive attitude displayed by our girls. This opportunity has given these students a new-found confidence in our learning space, by bringing their skills into practise in our music room. The students are excited to showcase their new talents, and assist in focusing and inspiring their peers to push themselves harder in rehearsals.

With these skills, our students are enriching not only our music room, but also our school environment. Their language and outlook on music has changed. Once, I found them discussing Bach and Mozart pieces in the school yard. This was great to see. Each student receives a year’s worth of forty 30-minute lessons, worth a total of $1,520.00 through Prestige Academy. At our music night, these students performed what they have learnt at the music academy. Their skills were amazing. Good on you, girls. We are proud of you. I would like to thank Ms Anna and her team for bring this idea to us.

CREST Success

As you know, Sirius College is encouraging IBL (Inquiry Based Learning) through CREST. The following students achieved great success in their projects:

Sara and Ealaf won major bursary awards (first places) in the state STAV Science Talent Search competition. They have been selected to enter their CREST projects into the National BHP Billiton Science and Engineering award. Well done! Congratulations also to Nida for winning the minor bursary award. A big congratulations to CREST teacher, Jamie Astill, and fellow science teachers for their efforts. This is a perfect example of quality teachers bring quality outcomes.

Teachers’ Day

Lastly, I would like to celebrate Teachers’ Day and acknowledge my teachers’ wonderful achievements. Thank you very much for all your efforts. Please watch the following video.
